For those of you who have travelled to Zanzibar, you’ll no doubt be aware of just how friendly the place and people will be.
Prior to my trip, I always select film stocks which I reckon would serve me well. Portra, Ektar, velvia and a few other rolls Ive no shot before.
All of which were expired. 90% of what I shoot these days will be on expired stocks. I still dont know why so many photographers worry about shooting expired. All I say is shoot them at box speed. Bollocks to the one stop decade rule. It’s rubbish. Any how. Enclosed are just a few of the faces I shot whilst there. On the Hassy and the 67 of course….
Whenever I do shoot portrait, I take time out to chat to a subject prior to opening and closing my shutter, but with the people of Zanzibar, that wasn’t the case. Every time I raised my camera and asked permission of course, they were so relaxed the shot came to me. No second frame.
All I needed in every case was just the one shot. Thank you guys, and ladies….
